Half Iron Triathlon, Done!

Image
Last year, I had posted about my first triathlon, an Olympic distance. This Year, I TRI’d the next level, the Half Iron Distance Triathlon at the Deccan Triathlon in Kolhapur . Swim in a lake – 1900m, Cycling on the highway – 90km, Running – 21.1km. The time taken was not so great, but as a first attempt, and not being in the prime of my health, I’ll be happy with it. The blog is written mainly with the intention of helping those who wish to start triathlon training, and hence the technical jargons will be kept on the lower side. Starting the Journey Having done about 20 half marathons, it was getting a little boring to just run, that’s when the triathlon bug hit me. I learnt swimming, did a full marathon to test my endurance, and also did a 200km cycle ride. All this was to see if I can push myself for such long distance events that usually lasts 6-10 hours. The most popular open water triathlons are held in Goa, Chennai, Thonnur (near Mysore), Kolhapur, whereas the Pool based ones are in Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Delhi and smaller events in other cities. And hence, there is a need to undergo proper training under expert supervision as the sport requires you to train across multiple disciplines – Swimming, Cycling, Running, Transitions, Nutrition, T...

We hear about triathlons, ironman races, etc... for those who may not be aware of it, a triathlon is a mix of 3 sports - Starts with Swimming, Then ride a Bicycle and finally Run... There are various distances and here is a glimpse of it: So now, to my story! Last few years, Ironman has been a trending topic in the running fraternity, thanks to Milind Soman inspiring millions. I wondered, should I even attempt this sport (not the Ironman, but the easiest of them all - the sprint or super sprint distance?).. and there I decided to attempt a triathlon in future. This Year, in Feb, I heard a new term - the Ultraman! It is double the Ironman distance, and I was shocked to see some of the athletes from India not just attempting it, but doing really well... that was the single most inspiring news. So I started reading and researching about the sport. Swimming - till 1st May, 2017, the maximum i could swim was abou...
